An international pillar of the craft beer industry, Sierra Nevada Brewing Company took shape in 1979 when founders Ken Grossman and Paul Camusi opted to take their hobby of homebrewing to another level. They began in a homemade brewhouse, crafted by Ken using largely recycled dairy equipment and brewed their first trial batch in 1980. This focus on sustainable practices is something that was at the heart of the company from the beginning, and in 2010, the brewery was named "Green Business of the Year" by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. Inspired by a love of the outdoors, Grossman named the brewery in honour of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
