Located in the shadow of Croagh Patrick, Co. Mayo, Mescan was shaped in 2010 by two vets, Dublin native Cillian O’Móráin and Belgian Bart Adons who met while working in the UK. The brewery takes its name from a historical figure from the area, a local monk by the name of Mescan, who, legend has it, was a friend and personal brewer of St. Patrick. The pair began brewing commercially in 2013 on their working farm balancing brewing with managing livestock. With a passion for Belgian beers, it is hardly surprising that the team source their malts, hops and yeast all from Bart's homeland. The water for Mescan beers is sourced from a spring located deep beneath Croagh Patrick. While all beautifully crafted brews, the Westport Red Tripel is a must-try.
